4(1)(b) v Rules, Regulation, Instructions, Manuals used for discharging of functions
The Merchant Shipping Act 1958 (Act No. 44 of 1958), (MS Act), as amended, is the primary legislation for discharging the functions and duties in the MMD, Mumbai and subordinate offices.
Thereafter, rules are made from time to time as required under the MS Act for discharging various functions of the organisation.
Further Government notifications, Office orders, DGS Circulars and MS notices are issued from time to time for implementation.
International conventions, guidelines and recommendations are adopted as necessary for keeping abreast with international regulatory regimes.
